Archaeometallurgy in Asia Summer School

An intensive summer school course is jointly organized by Institute of Cultural Heritage and History of Science & Technology (USTB), Beijing, China and Faculty of Archaeology, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. This one-week short course provides an overview of methodology of archaeometallurgical research and Asian archaeometallurgy from West Asia to Southeast Asia, covering a wide range of topics including the metal and slag analysis, origin and spread of metallurgy, and its roles in past societies. This intends to provide audiences with a broad exposure to how metals were produced, integrated, and manipulated in various spheres of past Asian societies.

The topics will be given through a mixture of lectures, discussions, artefact handling sessions, demonstrations with analytical instruments, and museum tours.
