Dashanzi, located in the northeast of Beijing city, is a key area to understand both the heritage of recent industrialisation and the strategies for activating and reusing industrial heritage in the People’s Republic of China. Here, the 718 Joint Factory was once the largest complex in Asia for manufacturing military electronic equipment. Today, part of this macro-industrial estate has been repurposed into the 798 Art Zone and the 751 Design Park. Together, they make up one of the most popular and active creative districts in China, a meeting point in the international Chaoyang district for a wide range of professionals and amateurs related to art, design, fashion, image and communication.
