Research interests:

My research interests lie in developing and adopting advanced material science and geoscience technologies to investigate marco and micro archaeological remains of ancient craft productions (metallurgy, ceramic-making, etc), reconstructing technologies, and tracing the origin and flow of materials. The technological choices of craftsmen are examined in various social-economic and environmental settings, addressing the relationship between craft production practices and the development of human civilizations. The on-going research projects include: 1) micro-archaeology of Shang bronze production, 2) the origin and flow of metals in the Bronze Age China, 3) silver production in Chinese imperial period, 4) geochemical provenancing of globalized silver circulation in the early modern period, 5) rise of coal-fuel metallurgy and its environmental impact, 6) advanced techniques for determining firing temperature of pyrotechnological remains, 7) ancient refractories in pyrotechnology, experimental archaeometallurgy.
